Normally I would say tablecloth, but I see you have it on a mattress. What size?

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

I don't know needle/knit work, but it looks like a crochet bedspread/cover that my foremothers made circa 1925-ish?

    Hi,
Really nice bedspread. I had an 19th Century one brought from Italy. Had it on a spare bedroom bed for several years. It had a emerald green silk batting. Was watching a friends dog for 10 days. On day 8 he nosed open the bedroom door and jumped on the bed. Turning around trying to get comfortable, his nails tore the spread into pieces.:eek::eek::eek:

I concur on the crochet. Would also like to mention that should this spread ever become damaged, it would be easily repaired as all the motifs are individually made and then joined together with the smaller motifs. You may want to mention this if you are planning on listing it for sale.

How much would this be worth? Since I have no clue valuing this type of bedspread.

It is a great shame that these lovely items, which have been lovingly created by Aunt Rose and Grandma Jane, do not bring more in the market.

Part of the problem is that many people don't think to use them as tops over a colored blanket, and then add antique, embroidered or betrimmed cases on the pillows.

I totally agree. I calculate that there are 300 individual motifs in this bedspread (I'm counting 15 x 20). This doesn't include the joining or the edging (looks like deep edging on 2 sides). It's tough to calculate the hours it took but I would put it in the low hundreds (that's a lot of crocheting with a small hook and thread!). Now, as noted by silverthwait, this was (almost certainly) not made to be sold, but still...!!!

I made one with popcorn stitches, size 10 thread, size 7 hook. Full size but can be used as a queen with ruffle. Covers the pillows also. I lost track of how many hours it took. I worked on it off and on for seven years. I know I have at least $200.00 in thread. Have tried several times to sell it but no takers.

That is gorgeous!!! I've never attempted anything that size in thread. I've made some good size doilies though and am now working on a thread crochet parasol.

My mother's older sister had a shop selling crocheted and tatted items back in the 'teens and 1920s. All the sisters worked on pieces. I have trunkfuls of the stuff that I'll never be able to sell. I guess when I die the kids will get rid of it. Maybe if you put a colored sheet underneath it - I'd go with light blue or pink - and photograph it you'd be able to get some interest. Folks with B&Bs use these in the rooms, at least in New England.
