I have had this for several years, I know who the artist is, but cant figure out if it an original, the frame is much newer and has been framed with conservation glass, It is not an oil ,I dont know if this artist painted in other mediums,so am flummoxed, also it is fairly small, and all the pics of his paintings that I have seen are much larger,so any help is appreciated. Have you viewed it with a loupe looking for dots from printing? That's the first thing I'd try and while not foolproof often that's all it takes.

    >I know who the artist is,<

Who is the artist? If we knew his name we might look around to see if any prints have been made of his work. I can't see the name clear enough on your pics. I would have to download one of the pics, edited it and zoom way in to read the artist name.

The last name looks like begins with M, W or T followed by 1 or 2 letters I can't make out, and ending with "pple." Is the artist Seth Arca Whipple? If so, found paintings and chromolithographs by him. Is that a number or date under his name? Looks like: X 1592 or 1892. Does it have a title on it?

I can't see your frame, but the frames on these aren't super fancy...

The first two are from findartinfo, the third from live auctioneers :)

how do you post photos as a gallery? I usually put them in as full images, but this time tried thumbnails ^^^^^ is what I ended up with?

Oh - never mind, it worked! :)

Ironically, there was a painting by this artist on the roadshow that I saw recently. Well worth determining what you have. Pics are not sufficient for us to tell. My gut reaction is that this is a mass produced print based on size and type of framing. However, I can not find another version of this work. You may need to take this to someone to have a look in-hand or take it apart for a better look.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Wow! Exciting! I looked at some other seascapes by Mr. Whipple. He really had a way with water and skies!

If you have a smart phone, you can download a free magnifying glass app that will actually take a picture of the magnification. Sometimes I find it works better than my own magnifying glass and jewelers loupe.

If the ebay piece you posted is really a gouache, which apparently it is, then it's safe to say yours is a print. I thought that was a stain on the top/middle/right, but yours has the same color in the clouds.

I have downloaded three different magnifying apps. I had one that was great at getting down to the texture of metal that you could not see with a jewelers loupe but that one did jump around, a lot.

One came on the app called Swiss Army Knife - my all time favorite app. I keep this on my phone's home page. It has the magnifying glass, a calculator, a ruler, flashlight, unit converter, timer, stopwatch, compass, bubble level and a mirror. I think I use something on this app ever day.

One is just called Magnifier and the other Your Magnifier. I downloaded a few others and decided these three were the best. All of them were free.

The one on ebay appears to be the same one the OP is inquiring about as far as I can tell.

Could be but the reflections on the glass are different so maybe they're both prints? nursenancy4 should know if it's hers or not.
