Hi, I have this sterling bowl from the Pony Turf Club - 2 different races are on it, April 5th (2nd place winner) and April 21st. Hallmarks are Birmingham 1928 Barker Bros Would this have been used or just for presentation? If used, for flowers? It is 6 1/2"H x 9 1/2" diameter. Any information appreciated! thanks for looking.
Thanks sis! Using that I found one almost the same http://www.carters.com.au/index.cfm/index/1952-monteith-silver/
The lengthy inscription would detract from the value somewhat. I'd expect an auction valuation in Britain of about the metal value to 20% over metal value.
I like it exactly as it is. Though I have zero connection to the event I would display it simply for its look and history.
This rings a bell. Didn't we have a Portsmouth Park cup on here a couple of years back? The racing element actually adds a little to it: that race course closed in the 1930s from memory.
Here's the thread. https://www.antiquers.com/threads/sterling-horse-race-trophy-portsmouth-help.5168/#post-71702
If memory serves me correctly, 14 hands is the limit for "pony" size........VERY neat trophy bowl though!!!!!
If I recall correctly from my 4H judging, Pony Class was 14.2 hands and under, perhaps different in the U.K.? Breed standards can differ, my little Appaloosa mare Lucky topped out at 14.1, a bit over the 14 hand minimum... ~Cheryl
