Is there anyone who has any idea of the origin of this small duck-shaped ceramic bowl? It measures 11x11 cm and the opening is lateral downwards.
    Thanks
    Giuseppe

No. I'm sure it's a duck or maybe a swan. It also looks ancient.

Hello and welcome to to the board.
Sometimes we convince ourselves we are seeing something that isn't.
I can see why Johnny thinks this is a snake - see how the glass/pottery coils? I don't see any evidence to this being a duck with a body and wings.

Can we ask what country you purchased this and your purple vase in? That might be a clue as to what you have bought.

Can call the outer rings - "hand built" (as opposed to "thrown on a wheel" pottery).

Has it been in a fire? Or is that black part of the glaze?

Definitely some sort of bird, the head is at the top on the pic below, looking in. Kind of cute. The coils could be the feathers of a wing.
It doesn't look ancient to me, not antique either. Could be by an art student, as johnny said.

Thanks for blowing it up, AJ, nope looks like that's the glaze. It looks NOT to have been kiln fired, but pit fired, like what would be done in an art workshop out in the woods. Like the kind I went to in the 1970s. When I was an art student. LOL

thank you all for your opinions and comments. Some very funny. I insert two more photos for further viewing. I had an idea that could have been made with volcanic material. It could be possible? I have seen that in Iceland they use a similar material. I write from Sweden.
