Both of these came from my back yard.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

They do appear knapped, to my amateur eyes. Remind us, please, where do you live?

I live in a town that has a documented history of Native Americans living here. I'm not far from where the Wessagusset massacre occurred in 1622. I live on the water and an old Indian canoe was dug up right around the bend from where I am. That's why I thought these might be something.

Terry, can you enlighten me. I have no experience with this.

That type of stone would be completely unusable for such

Thank you. I'll have to do some research so I know what to look for in the future.

They don't look like the ones in my area (Ohio). I'd expect something far more refined for arrowheads or spearheads.

I've never come across any, even at flea markets or antique shops, so I have no experience up close and personal. There is a museum in the town that has some on display. Hopefully, I can find the time to stop in and take a look.

Maybe a type of pounding tool but NOT arrowheads
I go collecting in the Vermillion river valley, don't find many but cool when the farmers plow the fields.
These have taken me over 20 years to find
PS: the middle one I bought and was hand made - not real

Just noticed you said Ohio! Area? I'm about 30 miles west of Cleveland and 5 minutes from lake Erie - and 10 minutes from the Vermillion river!

Here are a few of mine. I actually found these on my grandfather's farm which sits in a area that used to be an Indian reservation at one time. Hard to see, but there are numerous small notches in them where the flint was chipped away. Modern reproductions often don't have as many notches since it takes time to make them. 1st picture is of a spearhead and the 2nd is of arrowheads.

I currently reside in Southwestern Ohio but grew up in the Mansfield area. This forum seems to have a good representation of Ohioans.

Two things to look for are evidence of shaping and evidence of use wear. Spear points are usually thinned and then worked in from the sides to create a cutting-like edge.

When used they may have pitting or polished surfaces depending on what they were used for.

There are many types of tools and many materials used. Sometimes certain materials were preferred during different time periods and some don't look as suitable as other. Often tools are dated by their shape and material.

Anyway your's look pretty fresh and but for a couple spots look natural to me (no expert though). Those couple spots are probably natural too. You probably have a state archaeologist and they may very well have a website. You might check to see if they do because what's local to your area may look a little different than from somewhere else.

This is the site for Virginia where I am. It shows a timeline and if select that and if you click on a point it will give you information about it, you can enlarge the photos from there. Some of the other parts of the site aren't working as well for me at the moment (but then there is usually little funding for archaeology so not a big surprise).

I don't know if this is the best site (since they call them arrowheads instead of points) but it gives some idea on how you create a point.

I see Ohio-that's my home, too. I am 50 miles west of Vermillion, between Sandusky and Toledo.
