Speaking of collectible comestibles: with my shrewd eye for future profits, I plucked these off the grocery stores shelves decades ago... and they've been in the closet ever since. unopened and still in their original shrink wrap. Each box has a detachable lenticular card suitable to their "special edition" status.

Just watch that the wrap doesn't begin to shrink and crush them nor begin to discolor them.
As far as I know such wrap adds little to value for such as this and models. Maybe more.

 

Well I finally have a couple of items and even if not worthy of being listed here as "antiques" they may still be of interest to at least one other person.

The second one listed is my real prize especially because it was found in a small bedroom in/under a pile of what appeared to be bits and pieces of various toys and a few less-than-pristine children's books from the 1960s to 1970s.

1. Medium-size paperback booklet. 24 numbered pages. Atoms in Agriculture (Application of Nuclear Science to Agriculture) by Thomas S. Osborne (U.S. Atomic Energy Commission Division of Technical Information), (1962). (DH likes this one!)

2. Hardcover book How to Play Golf by Harry Vardon, 187 numbered pages with 48 full-page illustrations (photographs), Tenth Edition (February 1917), Methuen and Co. Ltd., 36 Essex Street W.C., London. It is in great shape, tight binding, no pencil or other markings inside (please see my later comment re price written in pencil), only (other) fault is a slight fading of the spine. (DH loves this one!).

Total money outlay by me for both . . . . . . $2.50.

P.S. This was at an estate sale run by "professionals" who were being paid to run the sale.

 

KOT is exactly right and i can see it is starting to crush the corner and that is not good you can remove contents from the bottom (they have no value and can cause bugs even sealed )and it will loose no value

 

Re the Harry Vardon How to Play Golf book, there is a pencil marking on the first blank leaf showing a price(?) of 16 pounds and a colored-ink stamp which reads "Rowe & Co. The Premier House for Golf Requisites."

King of Things, my favorite aunt had one exactly like that including the same scene and shape. I don't have any idea which relative got it/still has it.

I can't begin to count the hours I was occupied looking at, playing with, and listening to the music of her powder box. It was always on her vanity and I remember it distinctly from the time I was about three years old.

Oh how I hope someone knows who made it and the approximate age.

I'm guessing this box is 40s maybe 30s.

 

You're right -- it would be very nice if logos used throughout the years were (routinely) shown when giving a company's history.

I wonder if (in general) the abbreviation for the city "Cincinnati" has always been "Cinti"? (that's what the abbreviation looks like to me in your photo).

 

That box is nice and looks to be in very good condition. I wonder if you could get any info from the Bata Shoe Museum?

 

Went to an auction today. About twenty to thirty people in attendance. Most items sold to internet bidders thru Live Auctioneers but there were some floor bidders that shelled out some serious cash. Never knew paperweights could sell that high ..... there were a dozen or so that brought $500+ each with several breaking the $1,000 threshold. Other thoughts - Old toys and dolls are dead, there were several dolls that still had the price tags from a very reputable antique shop in town that sold. $1000+ (retail prices from a few years back, shop owner passed away) dolls sold for $125. Toys, including cast iron, didn't do much better.

I was interested in several cast iron banks. One particular collector in the 1st row scooped up most of them but I got the Tammany Hall bank below. Not in the greatest condition but the paint is original and nobody has tried to improve it as is common with many examples of this particular bank on the bay.

 

The best find of the weekend. Heavy sterling with semi-precious stones. No clue who the maker is.
