This one has no label, and does not feel quite like a Pendleton. Condition is not so great and one side is more faded than the other, and I photographed the faded side. Thanks for your time and thoughts.

This one kinda looks like a table cloth, and if it's faded on one side maybe used outdoors on a picknik table.

This is a cotton camp blanket, not a trade blanket. There were two companies that made these, Beacon, based in New Bedford, Massachusetts, and Esmond Mills in Esmond, Rhode Island.

Camp blankets were not sold to Indians, they were inexpensive compared to trade blankets, and designed for use in the home, at the beach, cabins, summer camps, and for camping at the Great Camps of the Adirondacks.

They were marketed through chains such as J.C. Penny, Sears, and Montgomery Ward and other dry goods stores.

The difference between trade blankets and camp blankets, is that trade blankets were wool, and were aimed at the Native American Indian market, as well as that of collectors and other non-Indian consumers. Pendleton was the major producer, and is still in business today. The other companies were Capps. Oregon Woolen Mills, Buell, and Racine.

Camp blankets were cotton, produced for the non-Indian market, and made by Beacon and Esmond.

Taupou, you are splendid, thank you sooooo much. You are always so very helpful, informative and educational. In searching now, I see a lot of folks using the word "Beacon" blanket, or Beacon style blanket, and I have surely learned something new.
No wonder it feels different than a Pendleton.....it's cotton! LOL:D
