I've had this laying around for 5-6 years, and today is the first time I've wondered how the hot metal was put into the bottom of the wooden fish without catching it on fire. You can see how irregular the hole is around the edges, so the metal would have to have been molten liquid to fit so perfectly, right?

    Hi,
Melted lead never burned the wooden molds we used as kids. We made our own silver dollars by melting lead into round wooden bottle tops. I think the lead might have been mixed with solder.

Lead melts at around 300 degrees F and wood doesn't catch fire till a little over 500 degrees F

First I've ever heard of a spear-fishing decoy.

Used for Ice spear fishing. They would cut a rectangular hole through the ice then drop these decoys into the water and "swim" them back and forth until a fish (usually a muskie or pike) would come to investigate then they would spear it.
I don't condone spear fishing as I think it's a pretty cruel method.

Yeah - I'd never sell it. They go for around 150 - 200$ but if that is one of a kind hand made who knows?
There are some items money just can't buy as it will never come along again to be bought if you wanted another one!

Didn't you ever see where Adam and Jamie dip their hands in molten lead?

Learn something new every day. I went cod-jigging once. That required a heavy steel hook coming out of a lead, fish-shaped weight (no bait). You threw it over the side of the boat attached to a stout line and then drew the line back and forth over the gunwales until the hook impaled something (hopefully a cod). That could be brutal too, but then by that point the fish's future wasn't too bright anyhow. What amazed me was that you could throw a bare hook over the side of a boat and catch something. Catch a whole boatload of something.

I actually prefer smoking my sausage as per dipped in molten lead. I made my sausage smoker out of a metal cabinet!

    Hi Rayo56,
Why would you dip your "sausage" in lead? Do you not want children? Man on man some of the things I have learned on these threads.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
