Looking for some information on this recent purchase. Is this regency or art deco or maybe Victorian? Is it a vintage designer piece? American or French?

Six ft round dining room table burl walnut veneer, mirror matched grain pie cut with natural center design.

WOW! Most furniture manufactures don't make custom pieces like that - burl is so hard to come by and work with as it is very hard in density especially to make veneer from it. Maybe a custom piece made by a superior craftsman wood worker?

    Encyclopedia of furniture .
    Russian Empire
In the Russian Empire, which is sometimes called the Alexander Empire style, was a short, but important pre-history, which began even before the accession to the throne of Alexander I, the emperor Paul.
Development of the production of domestic furniture autocrat, who hated France, stimulated simply, banned the import of anything French was in Russia. Nevertheless, some role models needed Russian masters. And they turned again, then very fashionable Parisian furniture maker Georges Jacob. "Russian Jacob", christened as "Pavlovian Empire", was different from the French simplicity and monumental forms. For the first time in Russia began to make furniture of mahogany and Karelian birch. The décor, as a rule, was very simple and consisted of extruded brass rods, arranged in simple geometric shapes. An important feature of the new style was its "architectural". Later, it was this trait has become a major honors Russian Empire entered into vogue after the end of the Napoleonic wars.

Under Alexander I the importation of imported furniture, too, by the way, is not encouraged, although France remains fashion trendsetter. In the Russian version of the furniture in the Empire style has acquired strict "architectural" form division. That is quite logical, if we remember that it is actively engaged in the design architects say, Voronikhin and Stasov Russian or foreign Rossi and Thomas de Thomon. Cornices, columns, architraves and friezes converted all kinds of cabinets, shelves and mirrors in a majestic building, so that arose in the interior of their city, to rhyme with a view from the window.

Usually furniture Russian Empire divided into three categories. Closest to the French original was expensive furniture made in the best Peterbur's workshops commissioned by the imperial court. The situation for the estates was already imitating the fashion capital, and its Russified felt much clearer. Finally, about 1840 cold imperial style was finally "domesticated" in modest dwellings poorer landowners and officials. It became a popular variant of the Empire, which in Europe was called Biedermeier.

For a luxurious palace environment used mahogany, rosewood or Karelian birch, which are decorated with massive bronze plates or gilt thread or tinted. For example, it has been a characteristic combination of white tones as the main and gilding on the carved details. For furniture simpler took linden, ash or birch, often painted under the valuable timber.

The upholstery used as monophonic or striped silk flowers (for expensive furniture) or calico and reps (for furniture cheaper). Beside the sofa is usually placed one-legged round or octagonal table, similar to the cabinet. Practicality and comfort for the Empire did not have high priority. After all, for the greatness of this empire is much more important than comfort. What is true today, when the demand for Russian Empire clearly exceeds supply. And when it comes to the status of disputes can not be. Vote for Russia!:shame:

Similar to biedermeier but I get the sense that this is more modern. Probably a piece from a limited production shop. I was able to find this piece with an identical base from this dealer in Egypt. Note that they say biedermeier style. My guess is that this is a fairly modern piece made in Egypt.
