Other broken clasps. The tongues or slides are more fragile, but sometimes the ring on the box part is broken, or the box is smashed beyond repair. I save all bits and bobs, you never know when they come in handy.

 

Thank You so much AJ for the tip on filing down the tongues to fit, I too save spare parts to incorporate into projects but it has never occurred to me to file them down to fit!

 

I do that, I have boxes of busteds.

 

I also have boxes of orphan decanters, both perfume and liquor as well as stoppers, that if they fit, are wrong in style. Thanks to AJ, I am now thinking that I could possibly grind down some stoppers that would work if not for the size.

 

Whenever I have a favorite piece of glassware that has a rim chip or slick crack I use very fine sandpaper and steel wool to polish the rough edge off. I'm sure it would work for stoppers as well.

I find that disposable nail boards work wonders on removing rim chips. I buy a bag of nail files for a buck or so. I buy mine at nail supply stores along with a good crystal clear nail polish (works better than some glues).
