Is this bracelet solid sterling silver? Age?

I found this today and it is marked 1/20 12K over SS. This is the first piece I have had marked this way. Does it mean other than the gold filled plating, the rest of the bracelet is solid sterling silver? Age? They were in business from 1947 until sometime in the 1980s. Thank you!

SS could be stainless steel. Wouldn't they want to be more obvious if it were sterling? I agree that it's a nice design. Very - um - mechanical.

 

I like it. You could acid test where the gold is worn through. Stainless doesn't pick up magnets generally, so that's no help. I've never seen that clasp made in sterling, it's not stiff enough, so odds are it's steel.

 

Bummer. It weighs 88 grams! Oh well. I will test it just to make sure. Thanks everyone.

 

For what it's worth, it reminds me a lot of some bracelets that were passed down to some in-laws from a relative who would have probably bought them in the 1950s...

 

Are you thinking this is an alternate mark for Harry S. Bick? They did make similar bracelets in sterling, so perhaps this is gold-filled on sterling silver...

Strong result for sterling silver and just to make sure, I did a second test with the 18K acid. Thank you for posting those links Cheryl.

Thanks Gila. I thought this had a bit of a Deco look even though I know it's not that old. The 80's also had a chunky period similar to this.
