Chair(s) date and style help.

I'm trying to date these chairs. I just picked then up, and I was told they were 1850's. Any thought on style and age? I gave $130 for the pair. Any help is appreciated. The more ornate chair has double metal casters on the front, and other has single metal casters.

They were reupholstered in the 50's, according to the last owner to match.

They look more 1870 to me . Lovely chairs , that 1st one especially . You got a great deal .

 

Thank you. What style would you say they are? I'm new to this, but love the learning and looking.

 

They could be 1850 or even earlier. Look up Empire tub chair to find similar. These are not a true tub chair but somewhat similar. Some of what you will see are French and more fancy. These are American and a bit restrained.

 

I was thinking Empire, but wasn't sure at all. Glad to see Brad opinion.

I'm tickled. You all are wonderful. I love them, and glad to know a little something about them. Glad I did not overpay for them. My house was built in 1870 and it's been restored to original state ( except new electrical, HVAC and plumbing) and I'm starting to fill it with period furniture. I'm glad these are in that ballpark.
