Old Brass Asian Jar with lid Marked.

It is made from brass, but with bigger present of Zink than usually and it will be something between brass and bronze. Also it is brushed with slight coat of copper for protection from building heavy patina. In person metal looks less yellowish then brass (something between brass and silver-plated) and slightly pinkish. Weights 2 lbs. 7 oz. / 7 ½” dim in the widest part and 5 ¾” H without knob. There are 3 symbols are casted or molded at the bottom.

    I'm here! I'm here! <waving hand wildly over head>
    :p

But I'm clueless about your item .... sorry! :sorry:

The marks are too small for me to even take a guess at .... can you maybe take pictures with tighter shots on each of the three marks (if they are different from each other)

I probably still won't be any help ... but maybe someone else will!

Sorry typo! In the description: I meant metal with bigger "percent" of Zink, not a "present". :writer:

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I don't know, either. Your latest photos of the marks are very good. The printing reminds me a little bit of Korean but I don't know enough to say for sure.

I was also going to suggest Korean but also not sure.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Without looking at the marks, I was getting a Swedish feel for it, but I really don't know either!!!

@Figtree3 @verybrad I was thinking that it probably Korean too, but not because symbols, but because of kind of brass. Few years ago I had a bowl with flat lid and with several big molded symbols / signs on the lid and some guy translate it for me like phrases about tea ceremony and he gave me all description about this kind of brass. I was told that it was Tea Caddy and dated around 40s-50s. About this jar.... I was thinking that it could be Ash Urn and maybe there is some interesting signs at the bottom. :bookworm:

Hi, can't help either other than to say it is a pretty pot.

Sometimes when a post doesn't get many responses, it is that plenty of folks have looked at it (the number shown of folks who looked at this question is 121) but no one knows the answer so they don't contribute. I'm not sure anyone here speaks Korean. Kind of a tricky problem. Do you have a Korean restaurant in your town by any chance? Might be an idea to have dinner there, and bring the pot in.

    Best of luck with it!
