I picked up this horse figurine this weekend & I am not having much finding anything like him (& it is definitely a he :shame:) on ebay or anywhere else. I believe he is some sort of carved stone, but appears to be fairly well done. I could find no marks.

He is 11 1/4" from his nose to his tail, 7 5/8" to the tip of his ear & is 5 3/8" to the top of his back.

So what do you think? Does the maker even matter? Possibly a souvenir brought back from somewhere, possibly Mexico?

Thanks for any & all advice or opinions!!!

Is it heavier than you would expect for it's size?
The last picture of the bottom of the hoof makes it look as if it has a coating on it. Do you think that is the case or the way the lighting is hitting it?

It weighs 3 lbs. 11 ozs. all by itself so it is pretty hefty.

I think it is the way the light is hitting it. There does not appear to be any coating on this piece. I tried scratching the surface in an inconspicuous spot with a small metal blade & nothing came off.

I found a couple of pieces that resembled this sort of but it was just the head or it was very small.

Just guessing but the stylized work on the mane and tale along with the stone which appears to be high polish black onyx is totally consistent with Mexico. JMO. Love the piece and agree tourist item.
