    I found these in a box of cool old (1893, 1903 & 1912) horse showing & jumping books - are these combs for a horse's mane & tail?

    Doesn't it look like a name or letters under the horses?

    hERE ARE THE BOOKS I FOUND IN THE BOX WITH THE COMBS ABOVE - THEY'RE IN FRENCH BUT I THINK THEY MAY BE VALUABLE - BEING THAT OLD, THEIR CONDITION + THE SUBJECT?

    It look like the same uneven teeth on the comb of Journey's and the comb of the one in the link? I suppose the casting was uneven and cast more than once?

    edited to mention the top of Journey's appears to have been repaired?

    Definitely mane combs although more decorative ones rather than practical.
    These are the modern equivalents.
    Top left pretty but useless as awkward to hold, top right or middle my choice, bottom one meant to be a hoofpick at the other end but not much use as gets your comb muddy when used as a hoofpick and digs into your hand when used as a comb!

    Lovely books. Fillis was a famous horseman. Shame my French is sadly inadequate to read those.
