VINTAGE 45 STAR AMERICAN FLAG PARADE FLAG HELP PLEASE

This flag is of great interest to me and I have done some research on values but would like some serious opinions on whether or not you think it's a good value.

It seems to be right in there cost wise and it also seems to me the framing is worth at least that.

I love our flag and this would be the oldest one I would own. It is, at the oldest 1896 and on to 1908.
~
I'm buying it for me not for resale nor for future value but surely that will be a good investment right?
~
45 star PAPER parade flag 26” x 17” - framed. (I do not yet know if this is an archival framing. I suspect it is.)

$149 + tax so approx $164 or so.

Hi Milt,
I have seen many CLOTH 45 star flags framed and for sale from 50 to 150 bucks. I would think twice before buying a paper flag for more than that. I sold several 45 star flags when I moved. My 6 ft one only brought 75 dollars but it was unframed. My favorite flag was a 15 star original which brought 300 bucks back in the 1960s. It had several moth holes which the kids thought it was bullet holes.

That said Greg.....maybe the paper ones are ' rarer ' ( in shorter supply ) , because they would have gotten ripped , torn or discarded over time.

The only thing archival is the tape holding it in place.

 

that's good to know about the tape.....

 

That's what I was afraid of. It will need all new materials inside the frame to keep it in good shape. Too expensive at that price.

If you can, the backing and new tape, plus a new paper cover on the reverse (if necessary) might not be too bad. Of course, you're keeping this, so if it's worth it to you....

OLD....and in reasonable condition !!

 

But for that spot it is.

 

I can do many things.
