If there were a Duke of London, would you write it as Duke of Londen? she asks interestedly. Would you do it for a person's name, even if you would for a place? Love seeing works in other languages that identify some women as Milady So&so.

    Dear Mr Latapie!
I well received your card from Pekin, thanks a lot, apologized (!) that I am not responding until now but I was very busy because of the visit of the Duke of Meklembourg, and then after our ambassador left sent for 3 months, and for a few days we have been here to avoid the heat of Tokio (!). When we are back in Europe I hope to have the pleasure of seeing you again. Greetings sincere (!), your ? Goebel.

This is starting to feel like a subplot from Downton Abbey.

    Hertog van Londen.:)
Or Duke of London of course. Either the entire thing in Dutch, or the entire thing in English.
Just like you would call 's Gravenhage (colloquial Den Haag) The Hague. Or like you would call Brussel (French: Bruxelles) Brussels.;)

That's what I like about antiques... just a simple thing, like a post card can make us wonder what is the history behind it, who wrote it? Why? Where was he? What was he doing?...
