So a client brought this in. He said it has been in his attic forever and he really has no idea what it is. He though maybe one of those things you use on a wheat crop and forgive me cause the name eludes me right now but when you see the pictures you will know what I mean. I just don't know what they are called at the moment. It measures 3 feet tall and the blade measures about 19 inches long. So what is it? Anyone know. It seems awfully decorative to me to have actually been meant for use. Also the top piece seems like it was meant to fold down at some point it is hinged but it has nails in it now so it doesn't move. Maybe that was done later?
A boot-scraper thingie? A cubist hockey stick? Something to step on and then wind yarn or something on the top? Three strikes, and I'm out. What are those letters spelling? PABS? OAM?
Well sounds like we're in the same boat. Boot scraper I am betting it would work well for that. LOL! PAB I can't make out the last letter it almost doesn't even look like a letter maybe a symbol of some sort it kind of looks like a backwards S that is closed at the bottom and the next set is OAM forsure.
It's not a scythe ...but the flat blade has seen a lot of use. It's Darling.....& may be old Americana !
I wonder whether it is a marriage gift carved by the man? Letters could be initials of the couple. Have seen spoons so carved but never a scythe/sickle before!
Fascinating, seems to have some honest age. No idea from this end, other than it is intriguing! Hope someone can help.
BRAVO!!!! Thank you so much! I can't wait to tell him what it is. He said he has been wondering for years.
