What the heck is it ?????

Little help have had a while and still no ideas. About 8 inches long and has a metal cap on palm that allows fork end to rotate..

 

Just a guess, I wonder if it has something to do with splitting a block of ice. Mark a line with an icepick, then plunge this tool into the ice and twist the handle to split???

 

could the rotating just be a cause of the handle coming loose with age..?

Honestly having it in my hands I don't see it being what they say. It seems you wouldn't have a metal rotating handle to chop ice.

Hello, Thanks for posting the "Ice Chipper" link, I stand corrected!! Also, I always thought that the metal cap was used to protect the wood handle, I now know that the cap is used for crushing ice. Regards, Lou
