One of our paintings has just came back from examination at the Academy of Fine Arts as we were hoping that it could have been an original van Ruisdael. This painting bears a strong thematic, composition, and colour resemblance to the work of Jacob van Ruisdael (1628-1628), a leading seventeenth century Dutch landscape painter. This resemblance relates primarily to the "Landscape with Waterfall" painting (c. 1660-1670, 142 x 196 cm), held at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Our painting also resembles another work of a landscape painter of this circle – Allart van Everdingen (1621-1675), titled "Landscape with a Waterfall" (c. 1670-1680, 102 x 88 cm) located in the National Museum in Warsaw.

Well, it turned out to be one of Jacob's followers. Still, most likely painted just after his death. So the painting is worth quite a bit and its even more striking and dramatic in person tthan in the photos.

    A beautiful painting.

An unfortunate number transposition in Ruisdael's dates (1682 for his death).

It is still very exciting. Does the Academy of Fine Arts charge for examinations?

Of course. We bought it at an auction in France. Most likely the owner didn't know what he/she was selling and the auction house didn't provide and information either.

I'm sorry, I hope that nothing has infected your computer. I think that the hosting server might have adverts with malware.

They do, and they last for quite a while. Fortunately, it is possible to send them sever paintings at once to reduce the cost. Also, their results helped us sell a painting already and to increase the price of this particular painting twofold. So, all in all, it was wll worth it.

I've had such a thing pop up and couldn't close it and I think all I did was close the page that was open under it and it was gone...
