    Hi Af,
That is not a shed, it is better than some of the houses down here in the Pines.

    Hi Sharona,

I'm no genius, guru or expert when it comes to antiques. I'm just a picker who has been very lucky and very blessed for a number of years. Nothing more, nothing less. But I do thank you for the kind compliment.

We do work very hard at what we do. I thank my parents for that. They have a work ethic that makes folks my age and younger look silly. They in turn strived so very hard to instill that within both my brothers and I. It's all we know how to do, work hard!

I recall when my DH (then boyfriend) and I were even younger, our friends use to laugh at us and make jokes on how we "acted old". Messing around with "old junk" instead of going out chasing guys/girls and drinking at local bars and clubs etc. Now after a decade or so later, well........... lets just say they're not laughing and making many jokes. Especially after some moving on in life and getting married and having kids of their own.

My parents use to always say,.... "life is hard, but life is what you make it. Work hard now, have plenty of time later to enjoy the fruits of your labor".

Hopefully later on in life we'll be able to be as knowledgeable as some of the folks here. Especially Taupou, AF, etc., and one day be able to share that knowledge with the younger generation to come.

Well luck be the lady! but you have a body double two times the luck! I use to see a couple for years and they were savy buyers. Sometimes they would shop together but her thing was estate sales and she was a good picker so was he. He worked for the railroad and only worked when he had to keep his insurance, so they did pretty well off antiques

I think a lot of younger folks do know how to look up and search their parents things (not all) Bet I hit a dozen sales this week, younger ladies who had been in booths or kind of knew they're antiques. I think that is what makes it harder to find good buys these days not to mention all the zillions of dealers around here. But this time of years there are a few finds if you have the time

I went to one hillbilly estate sale right around the corner from me this weekend. They kept saying "oh we have not gotten to 2 parts of the attic yet" So I went back a couple of times while out. I asked wheres the clocks you advertised, the young girl said "Oh were not putting them out in the garage sale" So she was checking the internet for her moms things (who was there

Does the box say anything about Japan on the bottom? It looks similar to many made there in the '20s and '30s. Base metal of tin (pewter) with a copper plating, then a silverish plate. The silverplate wore easily. the copper looks nicer than the dull silver.

    Hi Terry,
I concur, would remove the silver and make that copper gleam.

findsjapbox1.jpg Terry & Greg: Only silver inside. No silver exterior, some areas still show gilt. No Japan marks, but looks Japan made maybe earlier than 1920s with the Nouveau influenced feet

Yep very pretty! What ever age
Here are are a few picks this last week most dirt cheap
The Asian vase is pretty rough but was 2 dollars
Most others under 2.00 many were 25cent and 50 cents Blue frame was 50 cents etc
The little brown pottery vases have a Japanese mark as does the little dresser box. I think the perfume bottle is from India..Little girls figure dated 1944

The little dragon dish also has a Asian mark, butterfly wing dish, etc etc etc
