Ebay question- RS Prussia bowl

Discussion in 'Pottery, Glass, and Porcelain' started by classiquejunque, Aug 17, 2014.

  1. Hi,
I recently sold an early RS Prussia bowl, that had damage, I sold it with the damage. The buyer paid almost $120 for it with the damage, now I think she is having buyers remorse, stating that she wants to return it because she can't get it repaired. My gut (and my wallet) want to say sorry but you should have checked into that before you bought it. I'm almost willing to risk the neg by saying no. What's the opinion, do you think ebay would side with her if she decides to open a case?

Here's a link to the listing.

Classiquejunque, that is a shame because the buyer has acknowledged that she knew of the chip (I noticed that you had four photos showing the chip and it was mentioned in your description). I also noticed that she did not have bids entered until the last couple of hours left on the auction.

What does her history look like in what she buys? Has she ever bought any other item with a "defect"? Does she leave negs? Was this item bought at a higher price than what she usually pays for "things" on eBay?

Do you want her to bid on your various items in the future?

Was the package sent to an address somewhat close to your location? Does your gut tell you that she will re-package the item in a responsible manner so that it makes it back to you in the same shape you sent it to her?

I can't offer any real help, but I will say again that this is a "shame" (and perhaps even a "sham" reason on your buyer's part).

  3. I looked at her last 400 feedback left, only one neg and one neut. I'm not sure how to look at what she has bid on. She also bid three times.

  4. So, If I offer it to the underbidder, they accept, and I have her ship it to them, then I'm only out a couple of bucks and everyone is happy?

If she opens a dispute eBay will freeze your funds and she will win.
She will be refunded when you receive it back.

Perhaps just my female intuition rearing its head, but I would never depend on your first unsatisfied buyer to be responsible for shipping to the "new buyer" a/k/a the "underbidder." You have no control over how she may pack/ship it or even if she does ship it to the second/underbidder.

In my opinion you need to "clean up/finish" your transaction with the first buyer by getting your dish back from her and making sure that it is in the same condition as when you mailed it to her. Clean up the first transaction and then move on to the second (underbidder) transaction and do the packing/mailing yourself.

I'd think that it could be repaired fairly easily by a reputable service. I had a piece of porcelain repaired last year that had a couple of large chips and the repair was excellent and no one cold notice without a magnifying glass and knowing where to look. I'd think a piece this size could be easily shipped and repaired. The person I used gave me a rough estimate from emailed images. I provided well focused large images of the damaged areas plus images of the entire piece. If interested I could provide the name.

It may be worth exploring further with your buyer as to what their specific issues are. If you completely eliminated the winning bidder the next bidder would be $81. The winning bidder seemed very intent on getting this piece with those multiple bids.

You have on your listing page "14 days return, buyer pays return shipping". Ebay will side with her for the return if she opens a case. And if ebay sends the buyer a return label you will pay for that too. It is a bummer she wants to return it, but I think you have no choice but to accept it back. It is buyers remorse, but at least she pays for the return shipping.

With eBay's current climate, personally I'd bend over backward to make every buyer happy. I also hope your buyer will pack the item responsibly.

I don't know if this was a factor, but in the future, you might want to make the description text larger. In Firefox on my system, the text is tiny and looks the way a footnote would look, so it would be easy to miss that there's important info there.

There is a very high chance she would open a SNAD claim.

A very high chance that ebay would side with her.

A 100% chance that opening a claim is a 'defect'.

  11. It's coming back, Hopefully she packs it well.

  12. As far as the listings go I use the standard font, and I use Firefox also, they look fine as I look at them. . Does everyone see them that way?

It looks fine on Chrome, although I think you need to break up your text into paragraphs. (aren't you glad you asked? heehee :D)

With firefox I am seeing tiny print on a very wide page. I wonder if your setup of the Vendio slideshow has somehow made the page so wide.
I have never used such a thing but is there a setting for page size in the setup that possibly you have overlooked.

In order to read it I need to zoom in making scrolling sideways essential, and everyone hates scrolling sideways. Lord knows how it would play on a mobile device.

If I list anything less than perfect, I always put in the title Injured, then in the TOS explain what the defects are. I am sure some monitors or cells don't show the damage? I think your bowl is beautiful, chips and all :)

Shiloh, that's a good idea to use a word in the title to indicate there's damage.

I also think it's a good idea to put a graphical circle in the images over areas that are damaged since so many people look at the pictures but don't read the text. EBay has said it's okay to do that.

Classique, this is what the description looks like on my monitor with the page size set to 100%, in Firefox on Windows 7. (Click the image to see it at real size.)

On my system, it looks the same on Chrome.

  19. Well, It will probably be relisted by the end of the week. With the buyer on the banned list. I'm going to be doing some listing tonight. I'll play with it and see if I can change the font size when I'm listing. Thanks all for your opinions It helps temper the anger, and helps make me think straight!!
