Thanks Bronwen, I’ve amended my text now. The cameo has import hallmarks with HS which makes me think it could have been retailed at H Samuels high street jewellers.

Dont usually look for books but grabbed these the other day, Hardy Boys and Ted Scott Flying Stories first printings ...also some North Vietnamese literature from 1961. These will all probably end up on Ebay.

Not entirely familiar with which ones are worth the most, but if they are first edition first printings from the 20's and 30's they're worth more than the subsequent printings:

The intact dust jackets will help with value of the ones that still have them.

Who needs to do house clearances.

I have a contact at the tip / dump.

People actually throw away valuable items.

My contact saves me any coins he recovers and anything else I might be interested in.

Apart from around 500 coins I have not photographed, I just got this stuff from him.

UK, Canadian and Australian military cap badges,, silver rings, silver earrings, a military trench whistle, a cameo, 3 sweetheart brooches and a tinplate clockwork train.

These had all been put in the non recyclable section so they would have either been incinerated or gone to landfill and lost for ever.

The coins are quite good too, even some silver Maundy Money and a USA 1864 Two Cent.

This was obviously someones collection and relatives just bagged it up and dumped the lot.
There were some watches and brooches too which I've not sorted yet.

Yes its a tradition that dates back centuries, the Queen dishes out silver money to 93 men and 93 women.
That is the same as her age this year.

So next year 94 of them get it

I see. Is it marked differently than regular money? How do you know that's where they got it?

    Here's my Maundy Money.

The largest the 4 pence is smaller than a Dime.
The ones given out by the King or Queen are in a small case.

    lloyd249 it's not hoarding if it's valuable

    https://en.wikipedia.org › wiki › Royal_Maundy

At the service, the British monarch or a royal official ceremonially distributes small silver coins known as "Maundy money" (legally, "the Queen's Maundy money") as symbolic alms to elderly recipients. The coins are legal tender but do not circulate because of their silver content and numismatic value.

    Hi,
When I was "dumpster diving" I would find al kinds of sterling silver and silver plate. people did not want to polish the stuff and just tossed it. I found a Depression glass set service for 14 of blue Royal Lace. My favorite was back in 1972 I was riding a bus across town in Manhattan. The bus stopped for a traffic jam and I spotted a large Oriental rug in the garage bin. I got off the bus and drug the carpet back onto the bus. Had it cleaned for 75 dollars and sold it for several thousand a few months later.

This helmet shell cameo is relatively new. It depicts the Three Graces, but some inspired soul appears to have decided they would look better with the squared off wings of Psyche or a nymph. If you find someone to whom it appeals, fine. If there is any value in scrapping the metal, I would have no hesitation.
