Hello, I have an old picture frame that I would like to identify the date, along with the printed picture inside.. I bought this frame earlier today and fell in love with it.. When I got home I took off the back to see the print better and to see if there was a name. But what I found on the back of the frame was part of a company name in England along with a signature. It looks Like it was written with calligraphy pen. I'm having a hard time finding the maker of the frame because a paper is over lapping, it's very brittle and breaks off. I would like to also know the name of the print.. Any help would be great.. Thanks image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Hola, Nikki, and welcome to the Forums.
    What a fun mystery!
We have furniture brainiacs here who can evaluate your frame, and plenty of print brainiacs who can look at that.
It's a fascinating scene, powerfully rendered.
Good luck with it! I'll be following your thread.

    Sorry I can't help with the art but . . .

I did find something on-line which perhaps speaks to the "standing/reputation" of the framer. It is quoted from an 1876 published "listing" of businesses in London.

"Engert, A. C. & Co. Patent machine made ornamental moulding manufacturers, 75 & 82, City Road, and 31 and 32, Tabernacle Row, London, E.C. Ornamental mouldings for picture frames and architectural decorations in continuous lengths."

"Exhibitors London 1874 (medal); Paris Marine Exhibition 1875 (silver medal)."

Nice frame. Would think this dates circa 1900. I think the label on the back just relates to the framing and owner. Was not able to identify the print. Probably Biblical subject matter.

Welcome Nikki . I have to agree the frame is the star here . That print ( maybe lithograph? ) looks like its been trimmed , wich pretty much kills any value it might have had . Not to mention etchings and lithographs with classical scenes are going begging right now .

The picture is a detail from a fresco, probably designed by Raphael but painted by assistants, in the Vatican.

    Here's something I found online:

The Fire in the Borgo is the most complex of the four episodes in the Stanza dell'Incendio di Borgo. It is full of references to classical antiquity, to medieval architecture at the time of the affirmation of the Church, and to themes used by contemporary artists. It celebrates the intercession of Leo IV, by whose grace a fire which spread through the Borgo, a popular section of Rome near the Basilica of St Peter, was extinguished. The event depicted happened in AD 847 and is documented in the "Liber Pontificalis" (a collection of early papal biographies). Pope Leo IV managed miraculously to halt the raging fire, which was threatening an area of the city, by his benediction from the loggia of Old St Peter's.
