Makanudo There is no such thing as simple.Simple is hard.

I was at my grandparents village this weekend and I was diiging holes for some new fruits, when I noticed this in a pile of soil I just threw out. Area where my grand parents lived is known for findings of coins pottery, and various stuff from roman period. I asked elderly if the object reminded them of anything from back in 20th century and the only idea was some sole of shoes strenghtener.
I dont know if it is 60 years old or something very old, but would appreciate your oppinions on what it might be.

I had a tiny pony that had tiny horseshoes but that's a bit unusual size wise for a horseshoe, at least around here.

Rusty metal bits can be terribly hard to identify.

An open rusted nutcracker or pliers ?

Because it's twisted a bit, it could have been a closed circle at one time maybe. It looks like it had rivets or something that might have held it in place but unfortunately rusted metal tends to break off into unusual shapes and gather bits of crud in places it never was so it's tough.

Someone might recognize it though so never hurts to ask. Here in the US we wouldn't be finding anything Roman (though one can dream) so you might have a better chance of someone in your neck of the woods knowing what it is. You never know though:)

What's left of the flared end of a cast iron pipe?

Or a flange to hold same? Similar flanges are used on exhaust pipe, though at 2 2/2", might be a bit small for that.

Mine slide and can be rotated to best place the bolt pattern and are different than these but this gives you an idea of what the flanges would look like. They are not directly connected on mine so they can be rotated to the best use of the bolt pattern and are also 1/4" thick to reduce heat distortion.

Retained something else, looks like remains of one or two rivets on flange. Farm machinery or automotive.

... by the way, there are so many Roman artefact pieces around here that they have no value, nor their finding raises any eybrows. Just not to take my inquiry wrongly

Well it looks like way old iron to me. It varies a lot by environment of course.
