JMHO but these look too opaque for chalcedony, could they be travertine?

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Tye, there was a thread (or at least a string of posts) a while back that had a very comprehensive discussion, with pictures, of chalcedony, malachite, aventurine, jade and other often-confused stones. I'll see if I can find it for you.

I'd say Canadian nephrite Jade....the less black dots the better.

It's just my opinion from what I see, & your thanks is welcome enough.....sooner or later is not a problem.

Kids on spring break......I wish you well !!! :wacky::wacky::wacky:

Plus....while it's not the highest quality jade...I'd say your necklace has a higher value than the number the Etsy seller has posted.... IMHO !!

The stones need to be tested to see what they really are.No one can tell from a photo, serpentine has been used as a jade simulant for many years for jewelry and carvings.

No one can tell from a photo.....

    Oh...REALLY !

    That's a pretty blanket statement , don't ya think ?

I can tell what it looks like to me, in my experience .....& show other photo's of 100% certain recognized items to back up my opinion.

I've dealt with BC Jade since 78......& have two 2 inch raw blocks sitting 5 inches from my screen.

To the best of my knowledge the necklace as presented in the photo above ..is BC Jade......

This site...is all about photo's.....so if we can't tell what we're looking at ....cuz it's a photo......well maybe we should just forget about it and all go home. !!

JMHO, I think your post is really harsh. There are many stones that are virually impossible to ID from a photo. Can you tell from a photo if a stone is a ruby or glass? I think not.

Yes, you may be correct here, but if it were me, I would want something more definite than someone's opinion based on a photo.

Posting here is invaluable for ideas and opinions, but when selling we each have to do the research to make sure what we list for sale is correct. The responsibility is on the seller to provide accurate information.

I urge the OP to take this piece to someone who can test the beads to confirm what has been stated here. The OP's reputation is on the line if they want to sell this. They need to know absolutely what they have. We can only offer our opinions, the OP has to know before listing.

JMHO...I think you're stepping on the wrong persons toes...at the wrong time !

    Did you read my posts..>>>>??????

    #6.....reads " I'd say Canadian Jade "
    #8.....reads " It's just my opinion"

The OP asked for our thoughts , & since I though I recognized this stone I thought I'd help her by giving her the benefit of my long experience .
Including photo's of the actual stone I was commenting on .

This is not a ruby , or diamond or CZ, or sapphire or emerald .
I would not venture an opinion on those stones .

Jade is different. I know Jade.....& it has certain characteristics that can be seen in a photo.

The OP says.." I just want to be sure" , & I offered up an opinion which would cause her to question whether the Etsy description was indeed accurate .

And what do I get for my troubles.....Tyeldom3 thanks me for my effort , which I take to heart.....& Holly fires off a negative post saying I can't tell what those stones are....cuz it's just a photo.....calling into question my opinion & rendering it a moot bit of tripe !!

    Now you add ....
"Yes, you may be correct here, but if it were me, I would want something more definite than someone's opinion based on a photo."

Everyone comes here with asking for help to determine what they may have , based on the photo's they show us......knowing all the while that for something " More Definite " , a hands on evaluation by a professional is always recommended !

    That goes without saying !!!!!!!

What's worth saying is that I find your post to be no more than platitudes , and regurgitated common sense phrases that not only don't address the OP's question.....but just seek to belittle the help I've tried offer Tye.

Oh, & should it creep into your mind that this post too , may in your opinion , be really harsh......just know that in my honest opinion...you deserve it !

    No Photo Required !!

I truly did not mean to cause any harsh feelings with anyone and I'm so sorry. :(I have been a member of this board since it started and have much appreciation for everyone here. Anytime that I receive help, opinions or guesses, I always try and dig further if necessary to list an item correctly and be a responsible seller. There have been many things that I never fully identify and depending on what it is, I either never list it, sell it at a yard sale, donate it, or sometimes list it and let the viewers know that I do not know its exact ID.
I just appreciate anyone who goes out of their way to help others, and that is what this wonderful site is all about.
Thank you to everyone and again I'm so sorry.

    Thanks Greg...I've seen those too.
There's even a TV program called Jade Fever.
The jade has always been here , and known about , but more recently the Chinese market has driven an increasing demand ...& bumped the price up also.
