Have this big copper teapot. Very heavy nearly 5lbs. It has the mark 3.C. on the lid and and body but definitely too large to be 3 cups. It came from an estate the owners were scandinavian decent but I can not figure out what 3.C. is or if has to do with the thickness or grade of the metal. Stands 10.5" tall and measures 13" between handle and spout. Solid copper - inside is zinc coated. My first inclination is European Arts and Crafts but a few people think it is earlier. No makers marks. Thanks for taking a look.

I have no idea - but it's really lovely. No other marks, like on the bottom?

I suspect that the 3C marks were done in the making of the lid to specifically match the bottom - just like stoppers for hand-blown glass decanters sometimes have.

Pretty cool, well-made, nice patina, first thing that came to mind was arts and crafts. Neatest thing I've seen on this forum this week.

The lining would be tin or tin/lead

The minimal joints of the handle suggest hard solder - likely newer

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I am posting a pic of the back where there is a line of soldering on the body. Not sure if that makes a difference in construction. When you say newer are you meaning Mid Century or new like last 10-20 years? I have someone telling me they think it is very early. The inside is coated with something. The holes on the inside where the liquid goes through are hand punched. thanks again Rick

Something that well-designed and well-crafted, in addition to being somewhat unique, crosses over into art in my book. Given its high merits otherwise I really think age is a pretty unimportant consideration. Design, patina, condition. Never bought a teapot in my life but I'd buy that one.

Maybe a kettle rather than a teapot?

That 'dovetail' in the last pic looks like hard solder. The bottom looks like tin/lead.

Dovetailing like that is not done much in more recent times.

Many of the old Russian bottom stamps are quite light.

Ok that is what the person I had look it at thought. Definitely no hallmark. I thoroughly checked it. I'm still no closer at determining at age or country. My first though when I saw it was European but who the heck knows. I can not find anything remotely close. I appreciate your time.

Looks Belgian to me, that applied design is pretty common on Belgian copper pitchers/jugs etc.
