    Hello all!

I am new to the forum and am hoping someone can give me some direction on how to determine the age of some furniture I recently procured.

I purchased an antique bedroom set (photos attached) from an older lady that I work with who had a storage unit she suddenly needed to empty on short notice. She had the storage unit for years and I bought several pieces of furniture because I thought they were beautiful. I consider myself an amateur collector at most and know very little about specific types or brands of antique furniture.

The "Romweber" bedroom set consists of three identical "nightstands", two identical full size beds, a dresser, and a vanity (with mirror). This is what I am primarily interested in learning about. The previous owner advised me that the furniture is rare and made by "Romweber" which I had never heard of. There is a badge on the inside of the dresser that supports this statement. I bought the furniture based off of its looks and after finding a few pieces of Romweber furniture online in my research, it appears that the amount I paid (less than $700) was shockingly low. Im not complaining!

I have been able to find ZERO reference material online that could assist me with determining the age of this furniture. Also, I have not been able to find a single image of any Romweber (or "American Furniture Co.") furniture that is similar to what I have found.

ANY information or guidance will be greatly appreciated!!!

Welcome to Antiquers, @Wnelson251 - at least we now know where all the Satinwood in the world went to!

Just to get you started, WNelson, here's a tiny bit of company info. At least it tells you that your furniture is not antique - yet - but it certainly is very cool!

Romweber Co. has been in business in Batesville, Ind., since 1930. It was formed when the Romweber family took over the American Furniture Co. it had helped found in 1879. Romweber's "Viking Oak Collection" was introduced in 1935 and remained popular into the late 1980s.

Very interesting! Thank you for the link!

That raises another question. The badge on the interior of the dresser actually says "American Furniture Co." in large letters and then underneath in smaller letters it says "Romweber"....so maybe I should be focusing on narrowing down which badges were used in what years. Ill add a photo of the badge once I get home this evening.

    Thank you again!

Oooo - that sounds like a good clue, WNelson! Maybe they were made by AMERICAN (which that blurb says Romweber helped found in 1879!)

Just saw that Romweber is still in business, and the company helped someone else ID something with the American/Romweber label.

Maybe you should email them some photos - their email address is shown here:

    Does anyone

Thank you SBSVC! Believe it or not I had found that forum answer a few weeks ago. I was all excited but alas...I tried to follow the link and the website (romweber.com) no longer seems to exist. Apparently Romweber closed down some time since that post in 2005. The building that housed the business in Indiana is now an antiques store/event venue :(
    (www.romwebermarketplace.com)

I wrote the admin who runs the building requesting any reference material they may have but unfortunately I never heard back from anyone.

What are you currently asking for the set, as it seems to be located in an antique store..?

Hi komokwa! The photos were given to me by the original owner. She took them the day she bought them 10 or so years ago. I am not interested in selling the set just yet as I am using them in one of my guestrooms. Thank you for asking!

Hi Komokwa! My apologies for any miscommunication. Its good to see that "first impressions" are as important to you as they are to me. :) As I mentioned in my original post I am an amateur collector at best. I first heard of this forum about three hours ago when I found it several pages in to a google search for "antique furniture online research sites". I also clearly indicated that the reason I am here is to find out everything I can about the furniture; namely the year of its manufacture. There is zero reference to being interested in selling.

    Thank you again!

Yes, that is true.....BUT...we live & die by photo's here , and comment on what we are shown.
    And there is always context.
So , offering up a 10 year old photo...taken by someone other than yourself , at a location unknown to you that is clearly offering the item for sale....well , had that been understood by me....my question to you would never have been asked.

    That said......we're good !! :):)
