    003.JPG 001.JPG Hi,
I was going through stuff last night and found this weird plate. I do not remember if it was a family piece or something I bought and forgot about. It is weird since it has an eight sided design which is taboo to Asian art since 8 is the same as death. So does anyone have an idea where it is from or when?. It is 7½" wide.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

    This has the "look"...
Japanese porcelain plate early Meiji 1868-1912 Yamatoku
So maybe... Japanese? Of course, could be reproduction of Japanese, or who knows what?

my gut feel is that it's a fairly recent Chinese copy of older famille jaune. 8 is a lucky number to the Chinese.

    Hi,
I just realized it was the number 4 that was unlucky. 8 is indeed a lucky number for Asians. Damn how long is anesthesia supposed to last? Hate to blame it on old age.

Hi, I think Gila is absolutely right, it looks very Yamatokuish, early 20th century...

    Hi Gila,
I did not mean to ignore you. Goodness knows how much I appreciate your cantor and merriment. Two times I meant to thank you but got carried away.
