    Hello All!

    Found this lovely CDV

Was wondering if anyone could help ID'ing the name on back.

Looks like "L. F. Crampton" (but not sure if correct)

    Dated 1863

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Warmest Regards,

I think you're right on the name. But the date might be 53.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The date does look like 1853, but CDVs were patented in France in 1854 and were not made in the U.S. before that. Based on that info, it is probably 1863.

I suppose this one could be British, but still... they were not being made that early...

Had you intended to post an image of the back? Not sure how we can help there without a pic. The right side of his mouth is hanging down so far it may mean he had a stroke.

Spring, a pic of the back is there as a thumbnail at the bottom Scantic's query. I've looked at it but can't see it well enough at it's angle and quality to venture a guess other then to say I see the L.F. C...... name and Oct. 8th.

Later today if have the time may try editing the pic by rotating, cropping, changing it's perspective so it is looking straight at the writing rather than looking up at, contrasting, etc...

I the following edited versions of the sig. don't help much; however, here they are:

I found another CDV, unfortunately not of the person, but a drawing by a personwith the same last name ( I think)

    Maybe this will help! IMG_1361.JPG

Hm. The end of Mabel's surname looks more like -tire than -ton.

Mabel doesn't cross her T's. It still looks like Crampton.

This is just a guess, could it be British. The pose, with the patterned tablecloth, to the right seemed to feature in 1800s daguerrotypes from England on google. A & G Taylor, Newcastle on Tyne, seemed to be a popular photography studio back then. No idea what the name is but also saw a listing for a late Mabel Cramphorn on google so wondered, could it be Cramphorn? but that does not explain the accent mark above the end of the last name does it. Sorry, I tried.
