Featured Bracelet Help

Hi,
I've never seen a clasp/closure like this before - seems like a lot of work to hook up a bracelet but what do I know.
Marked A 18 and what looks like HE - I don't believe those are turquoise, maybe glass or plastic?
Maybe a custom piece or has anyone seen a clasp like this before?
Any information appreciated

 

I think I had a men's bracelet, mine, in the late 60s that closed something like this but doesn't mean it was 60s. May have been 50s but that's all I've got. Sorry.

 

So maybe not a custom piece then, thanks KOT I have no idea on age of this one but think it is fairly new.

 

I've no clue. Could be a gem. It is pretty and looks kinda 50s to me though that chain pattern/texture looks real familiar as 60s or 70s.

 

Cx, is there any chance this is 18K? It just looks like a nicer piece. Safety chains always get my attention.

I found one reference to "HE" on the clasp online, but the item (with Victorian garnets) had been sold so only a brief description was listed on the google search page.

Thanks Lucille! I wondered about it being gold with the A 18 but couldn't anything - I'll take it to the jewelry store tomorrow and see what he says. Yes, the safety chain is what made me pick it up, lol - great minds think alike

I couldn't find it on the site when I first saw the description when I googled "HE on clasp" thinking it must have been sold, but maybe you could email the store to ask? Is there any chance those are diamonds on the front of yours?

 

The turquoise may be real. The Persian turquoise that was set in gold jewelry usually has no matrix and often looks just like glass ... I just can't tell from the photo (or probably any photo, for that matter)

Just my opinion, but that seems to be an awfully 'involved' clasp for a piece of costume jewelry. I hope the jeweler gives you great news about it!

I didn't think diamonds but after quirkygirl (Thank-you quirky) mentioned Persian turquoise they might be! I've never heard of persian turquoise before and just spent some time looking around and now wonder about this other brooch I have. It is marked 14K and I thought the same thing, maybe glass or plastic but maybe Persian turquoise. Will post what the jeweller says.

The clasp looks like a variation of a Lentil Catch.

 

Those clasps are common on both older and more recent Turkish and Middle Eastern jewellery - and some Indian. The style looks 1960s or so to me, but it's fairly timeless. You do see a lot of mesh work in the UAE souks. I suspect someone had this made in the Middle East or India, or bought it there. I'd not be in the least surprised if it's gold. I think the A18 is the clue to that, too, wish I could remember where I've seen it.

That garnet bangle is indeed 19th C and has Bohemian stones, probably Gablonz. They're sometimes silver, ocasionally vermeil or gold and sometimes simply brass - imported to Britain in the thousands. I like them very much.
