Featured Another Sampler

I forgot I had this sampler hanging and didn’t add it to the two in the previous thread. I am thinking this particular one may be English. Anyone have a clue about this one? This sampler is in good condition and doesn’t appear very faded.

 

English. She attended the National School in Barrow, Suffolk, England.

The translation of the quote is from the Book of Common Prayer used by the Church of England.

This sampler is more workmanlike and less fanciful than the others, understandable in that national schools were dedicated in educating the poor.

She has descendants, if you're interested in sharing. And someone in England is compiling of list of national schools and artifacts from same. Ditto.

The quotation is from the Thirty-seventh Psalm (Verse 4), as noted in the sampler. The text is from the Tyndale-Coverdale Bible.

Hum... Not that it matters but... The Book of Common Prayer would have been used for instruction at her school. And that appears to be the exact language of the psalm in it.

The point is that the attribution here is clear. It's spelled right out. It hasn't a thing to do with the Book Of Common Prayer.

Thanks to you, I have been in contact with Mary Ann Wiseman’s ancestors. I sent a picture of the sampler to Elaine Sale. I am sure the picture will end up on ancestry.com and bring to life a sixteen year old girl’s handiwork.

 

Perhaps you should familiarize yourself with the contents of the Book of Common Prayer.
