Featured Blister pearl ring, kind of an odd one!

Had some decent luck at an estate/garage sale last Saturday, it was held outside and at first glance seemed like there wasn't much. Several dealers got there before me, it must have opened up 45 minutes early (I was a mere 30 minutes early) and a few dealers were walking away with little or nothing in their arms, one had a low-end 50's dresser, that was about it. I was determined to find something and just kept looking around. Pretty soon I was the only one there, so I asked, "Do you have any jewelry?" And one of the sellers says, "Oh, we still need to put the jewelry out." Talk about music to your ears... Well, it wasn't the mother-load, but still fun and I got to take my time and look at everything with zero competition. One of the more interesting pieces I got was this ring. I think it is called a "blister pearl". It looks like a cooked egg.

Looks like an abalone blister pearl.

This is newer than Victorian, probably 1930s to 1950s. They still turn up, but they're cool.

I've also concluded that this one is vintage, not antique. Yes, Galleria, that is the same setting, not mine, but same setting. Thanks for the link. I never even heard of "blister pearl" or blister abalone before.

The orange bit is coral. That's part of why this looks like the old ones.

I remember similar rings and pendants from the '70s (not that they weren't made earlier too), if I recall correctly, they aren't really blister pearls, but carved from the exterior of red abalone shells, the sides polished down, leaving the 'blister' of red outer shell...

"Oh, we still need to put the jewelry out." I dream about hearing those words :playful:

I always ask at a sale when I don't see jewelry but no luck yet.

Happened to me once or twice. In the last decade. I was first one into the pile at an estate sale a few years ago too, which NEVER happens. Some scrapper always gets there first.
