    Lovely set, Kiko, nice quality.
    I have it.:D
    Alicia is the name of a silver retailer in Taxco. Alicia is also known as Alicia Plata (silver) and Joyería Alicia (jeweller).
    Hougart doesn't seem to know if there ever was a lady called Alicia, or if they just picked a nice name.

    The codes are the tax registration codes for the different silversmiths that sell their jewellery to the retailer. No great names, and the people at Alicia's probably tell them what is in demand. TO-40 is the registration code of one of the makers known to be associated with Alicia, and O was clearly doing a good job.;)
    Some of those silversmiths start out under the wings of a retailer until they have a reputation and can set up a shop of their own. But most are happy the way things are, working with the security of a retailer who will buy their jewellery.

    Wow. AJ to the rescue. You are fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :kiss::kiss::kiss::kiss::kiss::kiss:. Saved me an hour drive through traffic to Los Angeles. This explains why the name appears with different codes. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I gave you a Best Answer, so I hope it worked.

    Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

    Is there any other history of the company in Hougart's book? I was just curious as to how long they have been in business.

    Nothing at all. But since there are only 1979- registration marks, I think they were not around before 1979.

    Indeed it is! At least, for the regulars. Others may come to ask their burning questions, more than idle curiosity. :)

    @Any Jewelry
    This is what their website says about their history
    "The history of Alicia jewelry goes back to 1960, being one of Taxco's first silversmiths. Mexican silver jewelry is recognized worldwide for its silver jewelry. Taxco jewelry is the most beautiful handmade jewelry in Mexico. Alicia Plata won recognition since its foundation for being the manufacturer of Taxco silver jewelry that best combined design, quality, service and prices."

    Thank you! I briefly looked at their website and didn't find this. So they manufacture, but also sell jewelry of others? Or do these "others" actually work for them?

    Marketing. I am very pleased with these new pieces and I am so happy they are handmade by individual artisans. These are formulaic pieces, I know, but they represent to me a tradition and puts them within my ordinary economic reach.
