That lot was "passed." I doubt that starting at $1200 "worked" for them.

you have to go by what the sold price was....never the asking price......but that shouldn't stop you from asking what ever you'd like !!

You need to set your price based on where you are selling, if you want to list on ebay that may be too high. Plus, the starting price doesn't really matter, what matters is the selling price, and that example didn't sell.

One good thing about ebay is when you can take advantage of free listing. Then it may be worth it to start it that high just to see what happens, since it's Tiffany, who knows :)

I see. Thanks. I didn't catch what "passed" meant.

Right. I broke my own rule. When researching on eBay, I only look at sold and/or completed listings.

I agree. I could start it that high and see what happens. It probably doesn't hurt that I recently sold a Tiffany necklace in its original suede and satin package. Maybe I could drop it by 100 each time I re-list...

I sure appreciate all the input.

You can always drop the price later; it's harder to increase it.

I will do that. (And thanks for saying it.) I hope to figure out a realistic starting price between now and Monday afternoon, because that's when I prefer my listings to start.

The listing is scheduled to begin on Monday afternoon (the 7th). I went for the gusto and started it at $800.

Thank you, Gila. With nothing to lose, at worst, I expect it to be a learning experience. I will certainly keep you posted here.

As promised, I am reporting back on the auction that started on Monday. But first, I must compliment those who started this site. It really is terrific, and very user-friendly. So thanks!

But my news is decidedly not good. No one is even looking at it. Well, all of six have looked.

And no one is watching. And I started it at $600, not $800 as I'd originally planned. Maybe still too high. That is the highest price by far that I've ever started an auction at. But I am thinking the turnoff my be that all the hematite on eBay appears to be fake.

The listing was free, of course, so nothing lost. But this really is a fine piece of Tiffany jewelry and I sure don't want to give it away.

One other question. Is it against eBay rules to include a link in a listing?

As always, I welcome your thoughts.

Did you test and see if your hematite is magnetic? Did you look at the photos on your posted link and then compare the differences of the clasp. You clasp looks like it is a knock off.

I appreciate your weighing in, Hollyblue. I did not do that because I know that this was purchased at Tiffany's. But thanks for your suggestion!

It's the link to an auction (posted here by Gila) that ran and ended in 2014.

NOOOOOO....as far as I know eBlech will not let you link to other auction sites.....even if it's to show how expensive your item is....
