Featured Where do you guys think would be the best place for me to auction this off?

Hey guys Bacon here! I have this Jean Juhlin fine art pice I found for a client but circumstances rendered her incapable to pay for it, so now I am stuck with it after months of hunting lol I have got the email from Jean authenticating the piece. She stated that the last one sold at auction for 4,800 8 years ago and it has appreciated. I am just asking the art community where a good place would be for me to auction this off to the highest bidder. My expertise is hunting for my clientele who already has what the want in mind. I dont buy stuff without having it sold first, so my experience with online auction systems are weak help a brother out! jk

I attached some pictures. It has plexi glass enclosing piece for display. it looks great in the office I might keep it.. LOL

A little about the piece, It is titled "Moving on" and it shows a tribe moving on to find better hunting grounds. truly a beautiful piece!

The Coeur d'Alene Art Auction has been getting some good prices. Don't know if they would be interested or not. Heritage seems to do well with this kind of thing as well. This is newer than the art I deal in so I don't know how relevant the above options would be for this.

 

I assume you have seen this? Lot was passed at $1300.00 opening bid.

I'd contact galleries in Santa Fe NM and see if one would sell it on consignment....

yeah i have seen that, As we all know something is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. This piece is going to need to be sold at a south west art auction or sotherbys i am thinking.

Can you tell me if item was passed at 1300? i couldnt see it said estimate 2000-4000 usd and a 1000 starting price. Thank you.

Right I don't get that either. Maybe it was a second chance when it sold. Sometimes at auction if something passes unsold then someone changes their mind they will do a second chance real quick. I don't know though. I am also using on my phone and it won't give me much info unless I sign in with Facebook for some reason?

interesting. this must be mass produced ones. mine has her name in pencil, its numbered and it has title all written in pencil. In her email she asked if mine has pencil or not. I told her pencil and she authenticated it, so i dont know why the one you shared is etched and frame in a different color wood than the ones she sold in gallery. Interesting. I guess its Time to do research, YAY! lol

 

Ooohhh... That might make a lot of difference in desirability.

 

I hope so cause my client that asked me to find this exact piece. she wanted to pay 3800 for it. I was lucky and found this piece collecting dust so i paid 60 bucks for it. I am going to have to start having others sign a contract. even though it doesn't happen a lot it is still unfortunate cause the service i provide take weeks sometimes months to find, so it is extremely frustrating when people ask, i deliver, then back out. I have found pieces for the movie "assassination of Jessie James by coward Robert ford." the bench he lays his guns down on, the horse picture he gets shot cleaning, and all the windows they used in the jessie james house were provided by me.

BTW...Waddingtons is know for Inuit ART.....much less of a following for other stuff...& a Southwest print will likely sell much better........in the US Southwest !

 

I know of at least one auction house that sells items directly if they didn't sell at auction.

Since the liveauctioneers page said "SOLD $1,300" it could be the auctioneer sold it for that amount after the auction ended.

 

Yes, Pat. I was especially asking because Brad had seen PASSED and Bacon saw estimates and opening bid at $1,000. I think it probably did pass and then started again. I was curious as to why the auction house didn't just post the final outcome.

Bacons. Since it can take you so long to find a specific item, do you lose clients often? In my business we finally had the rules changed and accepted clients only when they signed a contract that we, exclusively, represented them. It also said if they purchased elsewhere they owed us quite a bit of money. Though I don't know of any colleagues who ever tried to collect.

 

well my service is manly to collectors and and people who have been searching everywhere forever trying to find it. I am a hunter of the impossible to say the least. I have contacts in 23 states that i will call and pay them to call others to arrange a call for me to speak to them regarding an item they might have. I mean finding some old Bentley model or model t parts is hard so i go out and find stuff that is harder to find. I used to just do business at a antique mall in littleton colorado but inventory was not moving as much as i would have liked and my storage looked like a landfill. SO i sold all my stuff and kept some of my more rare items and auctioned everything else off as a lot. Used that money to invest in a camper and now i drive state to state hunting. I have around 30 repeat customers that are happy to wait. but sometimes the first time i work for someone things dont work out example: the art piece above lol

 

also I think the contract idea is a good idea. Clients do put 10% down and thats a contract but its refundable if i break the item on transport but i dont have a contract that states they cant go to another party and buy an item. good idea im going to discuss this with my partner! thanks
