Could these be Tiffany bookends?

A friend received a pair of heavy glass bookends from an aunt who told her they were made by Tiffany. There is no mark to indicate that so does that rule them out? They are really lovely.

I can't see these as Tiffany. They look fairly modern. What does the bottom look like?

 

Yes, I also thought they looked like paper weights and that might be what they are, but they came as a pair and my friend was told there were bookends. I'm afraid I didn't take a photo of the bottom. There are no markings there. They are pretty worn on the bottom and have an unusual indention. I suppose they can be fairly modern although my friend is over 70 and they were a gift many years ago from an elderly aunt.

 

Hi Barbara and welcome! These are not Tiffany. Most likely the St. Clair Glass Company of Indiana. If you google "St Clair Bookends" and look under images you'll see a whole batch of them. Lovely items. I've always wanted a pair.

OK, so...bookends.....but not knowing the size...thru me off !!

 

Hi, Don, and thanks! I did google them and saw the same pair on eBay for $90. I'm emailing the company to see if they can pinpoint the age. My friend will be thrilled with the real story.

 

I would guess 40 to 50 years old. And most collectors refer to these as bookend/paperweights so you weren't too far off komokwa.

I got a very quick reply from St Clair/House of Glass:

Barbara, your red and white bookends do appear to be StClair, likely between 1940's-1960's. Current pricing is difficult at best. Values continue to decline as young people search for more modern styles. I would estimate $75.00-$150.00 a pair considering point of sale, etc. Hope this helps.

Just an fyi...Joe Rice is also a glass blower...the Rice and St.Clair families have been around a long time...
