Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Thanks... had to look at what I wrote back in October. I wrote: "One thing that occurs to me would be to have them digitized with some kind of safety measures in place to make them difficult or impossible to alter. The way to do this falls outside of my knowledge area."

I thought there was a way to code something into a digital object or image to make them impossible for another person to edit or alter. That was what I meant. Purely speculative on my part, and as I said, outside of my knowledge area. I should probably keep such comments to myself as I don't know how to explain what I was talking about. And I see in my post I was about to get on a plane. Another reason not to write such off-the-cuff comments!

    Sorry for any confusion, Anti.

amen. On the other hand, if you have a pile of stuff to just get rid of, you can post that in the Free section. I did that with a pile of picture frames. The box went out on my front steps before I went to church on a Sunday. No one was home until the afternoon, and by the time I came home the frames were gone. I posted my street address, but the house was locked up. If I'd been paranoid, I could have put the box out in front of the church office with the same results.

Thanks for the additional info, Mill Cove.

Good idea re the police station lobby... I'll have to look into that. When you decide not to meet someone who won't call, what do you tell them?

I don't include my number in my ad. So when someone emails to say they are interested, I send an email with my number and ask them to call me to arrange a time and get directions. If they email back and ask if X time is good, I email back one more time and say you need to call me to arrange a time and get directions. If they email again without calling, I just ignore them.

I always tell people that I don't hold anything. I ask them to call before they are leaving to make sure that the item is still available. That way you know they are going to show up.

My neighbor sells a lot on Craigslist and he started doing the same thing. He found that people who won't call, usually don't show up anyway.

Here is an example of one of those scammer emails. I received this the other day. These usually make no sense, contradict themselves and never mention what the item is even though it's in the title through the Craigslist email system. They usually use the word post or advert.

"hi how are you doing today Chris is my name Am very interested in your post,Please call with a day and time if you would to meet for pickup. I'm available for most weekdays between 9:13 and 10:24 PM and out a lot on the weekends usually from Sat. noon until Sun. late afternoon message isnúmero(xxx) xxx-627sevenThanks"

Sometimes, when I'm bored or need a laugh, I answer these emails with an absurd email like "Yes, the chicken puppies are still available, would you like a mail (spelling wrong on purpose ) or a gurl so I know which one to bring with me." They always answer these absurd emails. One guy said he wanted one of each, gurl and mail, to breed his own "chicken puppies". :D

Oops, the last time I posted I hadn't seen several replies. Weird.

King, yup, it's actually my husband who would probably meet with a local buyer. He's more a teddy bear type than a fighter, but he's taller and bigger than me. :)

Komo, you've convinced me... cash only. And if it's an expensive purchase, watch if a car is following you when you leave... and circle back to the police station if they are!

Evelyb, I may post some free stuff, too. We could always leave it at the end of our driveway in a box. Or, as Komo said, someone else's driveway! :joyful:

Mill Cove, that's too funny! :hilarious:

I had an old broken wood swing for two that I put on Craigslist for free. I took pictures of all the problems. It was gone within an hour.

Just thought of something. My husband's probably not going to be so good at haggling, so I may have to go with him to meet people. Or I 'spose he could say I set the prices and he's not allowed to accept anything different. :)

Pat, my neighbor uses me as his excuse. He is very uncomfortable haggling. He has called me and put me on the phone with his buyer and I refuse to budge on the price or I agree to a very small discount. I have no idea who they think I am but it works for him.

These days we need to be cautious even when accepting cash. A couple from WA state have been passing fake $100 bills and buying off of Craigslist.

I haven't seen the fake bills but have heard that there are lots of victims.

    LOL!

That's what we could do, with me available on the other end of his cell. Husband will be way more comfortable that way!

A scam here was a couple that would show up with a little girl, 4 or 5, and she had to go to the bathroom. The mom and child would go in the house , and once inside they would steal what they could and then leave quickly without purchasing what they originally went to buy. You sure wouldn't expect folks with a little one to steal but it happens.

You tell them that your insurance doesn't cover strangers.....

Ah, who am I kidding.....I let a woman and her young child use the loo in my Gallery once.....even though there was a restaurant 50 yards away.
I didn't have insurance for that ...& she was in there a long time.....
I sweated that one out ....& said never again.
