I was born in 1942 and remember going down in the dugout holding my Mothers hand .. there were many dugouts across England and I know when we moved to Canada in 1957 my school still had dugouts in the fields around it ...

I don't give a rats ass about Berlin, they got it rebuilt at our expense.

My city was wiped off the map during WWII, the Luftwaffe tried to kill my mother and her family 3 times.

Military bomb disposal still visit around every two weeks to attend to UXB

The city's port and industrial facilities, coupled with its proximity to mainland Europe and ease of location being on a major estuary, led to extremely widespread damage by bombing raids during WWII; much of the city centre was completely destroyed.

Hull had 95% of its houses damaged or destroyed, making it the most severely-bombed British city or town, apart from London, during World War II.
Of a population of approximately 320,000 at the beginning of World War II, approximately 192,000 were made homeless as a result of bomb destruction or damage.
The worst of the bombing occurred during 1941.
Little was known about this destruction by the rest of the country at the time since most of the radio and newspaper reports did not reveal Hull by name but referred to it as a "North-East" town or "northern coastal town"so as not to give the enemy information.
Most of the city centre was rebuilt in the years following the war, but as recently as 2006 researchers found documents in the local archives that suggested an unexploded wartime bomb may be buried beneath a major new redevelopment.

Here’s an 8 min. Thing on Cologne, best part for me is first half where prewar Cologne tour shows the fantastic architecture, people at leisure activities, etc. There are many short interviews with soldiers and citizens who survived, in German unfortunately for non-German speakers, but you can get a sense of what they are describing from their expressions. An allied Incendiary bomb raid started a firestorm that killed I think more people than died at Hiroshima a bit later.
