Old trunk in family for 5 generations.

Here's an old trunk that has been in my family for about 5 generations.

As you can see, it has been repaired a few times (originally with brass plates), then
with some copper plates, then black hinges.
If I remember right it came from my great, great, grandfather 'Baldwin' from Canada?

I just like the way it looks, not too complex with the design, nor plain.....

It's 43" long x 21" wide x 18.5" high.

That is a Handsome trunk!

 

Probably mid 19th century, give or take. All the repairs and modifications do not help it but, as a family heirloom, they are part of its history. Pretty good functional size that would double well as a coffee table.

 

Almost looks like a campaign chest . Very nice piece indeed .

I believe it's made of Camphor wood and my dad thinks it's a sea captain's chest?
Who knows......
