    Hello:
My mother purchased this many years ago from an antique dealer she worked for.
She has now given it to me to display in my home.
I love it, but know nothing about it.
Looking online I think these types are called Federal Mirrors?

This one is wood, but really don;t know how old it is.

    Any help is appreciated.

It is a Federal style convex mirror. It is a 20th century reproduction. I think it is relatively new. Sometime from the last 40 years.

I think it's a bit older - maybe Wallace Nutting era. The wood on the back and the fittings are more 1920 than 1960.

I thought it might be at first as well. However, the staples and cardboard on the back made me take a second look. I think this had the black paper on the back that is so ubiquitous to newer pieces and the wood has been stained dark. Also, if you look at the close-up of the front, there is a lack of crispness to the detail that I would expect on an older piece. JMHO.

I agree. I have one that is late 1890s and another one that is early 1900s. Both are older than this one.

So from the 1950's or 60s?

I'm looking at the closeup of the bottom of the mirror. The design doesn't look quite centered on the backing. Makes one wonder if it's a molded product on the front. It's odd because the back looks so much older than the front.
