Carved wooden plunging kajigger - nutcracker? seeder? corer?

Does anyone know what in the world this thing is supposed to do? I'm guessing it's some sort of kitchen tool, perhaps?

Wow... wracked my (alleged) brain and Googled around and best guess is some kind of cork inserter?

Edit - Scary. You could just SHOW that thing to a prisoner and he's confessing EVERYTHING!

 

Thank you! I was convinced it was for removing something, and spent the last hour looking for some kind of pit remover (e.g. - cherries or olives). I see lots more examples on eBay now in the winemaking section. I appreciate your help.

Thanks, Gila. It also makes a loud squeaky sound when the plunger is closed. We wondered for a while if it might be some type of animal call. LOL
