Featured Weird Strange OOAK Rattle ?? Pendant??

OOAK rattle or I suppose could be a pendant, it has a ring on the back for hanging , made from old silverplated flatware with additional garnishments. Outsider art? folk art? I think someone would love it! people love weird stuff.

 

I betcha it's a unique folk artist at work. A few of the pieces (wings, leaves) look a bit like the "Milagros" (small low-quality silver or other metals, depicting various body parts or objects for which intercessions are sought) that Mexican Catholics wear in groups as talismans for this and that, but the flavor isn't very Mexican. Are those jingle-bells? That might be more Indian/Asian...?

Yes those are bells, which is why I think it could be a rattle.

What an interesting piece. Old spoon & handle, brass leaves off something like an epergne, wings from an Air Force pilot's pin, and brass Indian bells. Definitely folk art.

Crafters & artisans are doing quite a bit of this sort of thing these days, calling it repurposed or upcycled silverware.

I haven't seen anything quite like your piece, wildrose, but there are some rather funky designs out there, and the prices on them might surprise you.

If you check on Etsy, for instance, for "repurposed silverware", you'll find lots of both simple (rings, bracelets, keyrings...) and much more elaborate designs.

As you've said, people love weird stuff, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if someone out there would love to have this piece.
