Thanks, Booksie! In fact, if any of you run across a bird cork and mail it to me, I'll mail you back a giant Hershey Bar!!!!!!
Holy Moses, Bev! I'm overwhelmed that you would be willing to look!!!!!! Thank you... maybe I should send you a candy bar anyway...
I bought an antique lamp at a thrift a few years ago. It's a giant champagne magnum (?) and the bottle is filled with burlap. I intended to open the lamp, take out the burlap and fill it with corks. That proved impossible. They used some kind of heavy adhesive or something to glue the cap on top and I'd break the bottle getting it open. I'm still saving corks just in case.
Gila, back in the long "years-ago" when I was a Girl Scout leader, I used to save wine corks for "projects"... (It's a bit embarrassing to admit how many of those corks in that bowl on your table I actually had, but, hey - we used to entertain A LOT!) Yes, I hate to admit that I recognize most of the corks in your collection, and I'm (really, truly, honestly!) not much of a drinker, but if I happen to come across ANY wine bottle cork with a bird on it, you will be the first to know! LOL, -C- p.s. that's a lots of love not a laughing out loud LOL!
Lots of love back at ya, C! I'm not much of a drinker, either... well, Margaritas, maybe. I got most of them by buying a bird-related wine and then HOPING the cork would follow through... often not the case. Then the wine would sit around... especially if it's a red, which gives me an instant headache. And then, a few corks have been from "donors"...
Oooo - you know what I always LOVED? I'm a sap when it comes to Christmas, so wine bottles with Christmas labels always grabbed my attention... The wines themselves were usually pretty lousy, but the labels? Sheer perfection! p.s. It reminds me of a wine store owner who once told me, "Wines in BLUE bottles are always "crap" - but people buy them for the blue bottles!"
I'm WITH ya! I care little about the wine... gimme that bird cork. It's always such a calculated risk... the wine costs 25 bucks, but it has a bird on the label... hmmm... okay, we'll try it... then later at home... the OUTCOME. My ol' man has fits waiting as I wander row by row in a new store. The guys always ask me if they can help me find something. I say yes, I'm looking for bird corks. They're always very helpful, but my ol' man acts like I just exposed myself or something.
Bev.....Magnum or Jeroboam? The Jeroboam is about 2 feet tall.....we have 2 from our wedding a gazillion years ago!
What a cool thing to collect !!! And of course..I will be on the lookout for you ..to add to your collection !!!
Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu, Janette! Terry... that is the ultimate bird cork. You are The Man of bird corks. I want it!
