Hi....I have been charged with researching the style, origin and value of a dining set that has been in my family for a while. Can anyone help out?

    Thanks in advance.... 20160222_222504_resized_1.jpg

There are 8 chairs, the table, a china cabinet and a side board with it. 214 (640x360).jpg 220 (360x640).jpg

I don't think it is American. Sort of a modified Chippendale style. Wood is supposed to be Mahogany but much of it appears to be something else stained to match. Probably no earlier than 1920. Could be up to a few decades later. Could we see drawer construction and the back of one of the case pieces?

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

I sure hope there are a few leaves to go with that dining table and the 8 chairs!!:smuggrin::smuggrin::smuggrin::smuggrin:!!! Nice looking set though!

Even with leaves, the chairs seem designed to be a part of a set with a larger, rectangular table (with leaves).

I'd guess mid-1950s through 1960s. The chairs are very nice. Does the table have the same style feet?

Yes it does. All the pieces have those feet.

I think the differences in color may be from having it refinished at one time. I seem to recall my parents having it refinished once. But I believe it is all the same species of wood......mohogany or walnut I think, but I am no expert.

Is that the original fabric? Is it satin and light blue?

Pretty sure that the chairs are not mahogany. A lot of European made chairs from the second third of the 20th century and beyond are beech and, then, stained to match the primary woods used in other pieces.

Thanks for the pic of the drawer. They do confirm quality 20th century European production but not a lot else. Is the drawer bottom plywood or solid? Still would like to see the back of one of the case pieces and better pictures overall of the buffet and/or china cabinet would help.

As to value, it really depends on where you are, venue you are selling at, and how quickly you need to sell.
