Help With Silver, cut glass Vases?

Not really sure what these are. All i can tell from the hallmark is these are around 1900/10. The glass 'extras' make the the opening smaller, assuming they're to allow for a single flower? Not sure on maker. The only initial i can identify is a 'R'. London hallmarked.

They have 'paten victoria 6' stamped on them.

They look like two routine bud vases with to coincidentally sized other pieces, since the etched Victoria is totally out of style with the 'civilian' bud vases.

I can't see enough of the two small pieces to guess what they may have been for or part of.

 

The smaller pieces may be inserts to hold candles?

 

The smaller pieces fit in the top quite nicely. Pretty sure it's not a marriage. They narrow the hole.

 

Just musing, but I wonder if the glass inserts could act like bobeches and turn the vases into candlesticks? Maybe not...

Methinks Wendy is correct; multi-purposing is not a new concept.

 

If you were going to make elegant decorated glass silver rimmed bud vases, would you stencil and etch (an industrial quality method) anything on the bits of glass you suppose to be with them. It's unlikely, and I have never seen such a combination among the similar vases I have seen.

I am sure this is simply a coincidence of sizes. What, really, would be the point of including something else to narrow the neck of an item that is far from a precision implement?
One bloke says 'make the vases an inch across at the top' and in a totally different shed, some other bloke says, make the 6cfm throat gates the right size to fit the Paten siphon flow hydrostatic gages. That's one inch across.'

Donkeys years later, Bingo. The bits wind up in the same box and a marriage on canvenience is made.

Of course, if you doubt my account, find a similar, not uncommon, vase with a throat attachment.
