Makanudo There is no such thing as simple.Simple is hard.

Its a set of three decorative scenes of forest. Each one is different scene, but the size is same 40x120cm. It is very thick because the board with the scene is in the middle and sort of frame is in the back and at the front(9cm). At first I thought it was carving, but I am not sure now that I can see thin, straight parallel lines, as if it has been pieced together from sheets. Not sure. It is painted in golden colour..
I am guessing it was a window decor somewhere , but would like to hear your ideas.

Can't offer much. And can't immediately remember where the heck my similar one is at this point. Storage? If so, which and where?

Grew up with one similar hanging somewhere in the homestead. It had a paper background colored as yellowish (sunshine) and blue sky. About identical to your one with just trees. Same shape and size. I clearly remember opening it for some minor adjustment and discovering that the (carvings?) were actually thin sheets of laminated wood. I believe yours are thicker. Mine definitley portrayed an Egyptian type scene. Circa? Anywhere from late 1800 to mid 1900s.

Edit: just did conversion. 120Cm = 47 in. +-. Mine is/was closer to 30 inches.

Architectural panels of some sort. I think they were cut with a band saw (or coping saw if by hand) and the faces hand carved afterwards. It is possible that the wood is laminated but that would just be a function of practicality and strength, rather than for an artistic purpose. I don't think these have too much age to them. I would expect better quality if they were truly old.

In each panel there is a bird, different bird in each one. Photos are bad, and I am sure that it was laminated method that was used I can see the plates where there is no colour.
    To me, scenes look japanese

They have obviously been originaly paced into wall. They are two sided. Front and back are the same.
However they have been sitting somewhere for a long time

I was also thinking they look Japanese but so much of this type of thing is Chinese. Look very much like the panels often found in Chinese Restaurants.

The Thai restaurant near us has these type of panels separating the bar area from the dining area. Not exactly the same, but these wooden cutouts.

Personally, I like this sort of thing and would find someplace to put them. I try very hard to make my house conform to some standard, but it ends up being eclectic.
