Leather covered with a glass ball that has a little candle inside. (I think the glass is solid, it's heavier) It's 3" long.
When I picked up I thought maybe guides or scouts, but I really have no idea.
    Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I was wondering where just about everyone went. I was on the ebay board a few weeks and things were different. Then read a thread that alluded to this place and started searching. I've been reading here a few days and it's excellent! lantern pin 005.JPG lantern pin 009.JPG lantern pin 008.JPG Thank you for starting this!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Debbradee, It's good that you found this place. At first we were sending invites, but some people were being penalized for doing that.

Greg and I (apologies if I have missed someone) have been posting references to antiquers.com on ebay board threads in the middle of Antiques board answers and so far they have not been removed or attracted censure.

The form of the lantern is that of a ship's masthead (would be closed at the back) or riding light. There may be a clue there.

I think the look of a 'watch band/strap' might be more of a clue? Of course, I tried to find another and failed. I did, however, learn about all the symbolisms of a lantern - none of which gives a clear answer here.

So, back to the watch band? If a service pin for a watch band co., I would think there would be some sort of marking, label, years of service...etc., to the co.?

It could be as simple as something one of the watch band, or watch brands offered for sale or gift with purchase, as many are sold in the jewelry dept.

Looks like a pocket watch fob to me, similar to the one below. That seems to explain the "watch-like band". The pin could have been added later ???

Isn't there a church group called the Lantern?

Thank you all for the welcome and the help. I'm not a big poster as I very seldom ever find anything, but I love reading and seeing familiar faces or in this case posting ids/avatars and of course the most important, trustworthy people.

Figtree3, the Lithium moderators are pretty heavy handed. The "Ebay Clothing and Accessories" moved off and named their new forum the same. I don't remember all the details, but Ebay tried to make them change the name, to no avail.

AF, It was one of your posts I saw, thank you and thanks for the lantern type/name.

707susang, I wish it did have advertising or the such.

Nuff, I hadn't thought of fob. I took the pin off and it looks just like one in your image and the ones in google images. Maybe it's a combination watch fob/lapel pin.

Cluttered, I looked looked up church group and there is a "Lantern Community Church" in Calgary AB. I'm in BC, so if there is a connection, it's not far from me. I wasn't able to find anything on their service pins though.

    Thanks again, everyone.

Many of us do not even go there any more. I think it's a fob, too. I had one that was a tiny pair of binoculars with similar leather on the outside. It was attached to a keychain and I'm pretty sure it was just a 1960s collectible type item. Yours should do well because it's in great condition.
