Oh that’s the painting!! Beautiful!!! He gave me a little pamphlet that came with it and the papers from the company/people but it’s all in German so neither of us can understand it. I’m going to google translate it when I have a moment. Yes, there is also little initials in the back “G. Noto”.

We are a funny couple and very opposite. In the 9 years we have been together neither of us knows exactly how to give a gift nor receive one. He mumbled happy birthday, shoved the box and papers into my hands, and disappeared without seeing me open it. I had to play hide-and-seek in my home to find him and say thank you but I could tell he was very pleased by whatever it was he saw on my face (shock I’m sure). He did VERY well.

    Hi BMRT,
You are lucky, at least you get great things. My second other half both thought the same way. I gave her a really old piece of Chinese porcelain and a Tiffany toothpaste squeezer for Christmas. She gave me an old Chinese porcelain and a Tiffany toothpaste squeezer for Christmas. We both had a big laugh over that. The next year I gave her a gold bracelet and a Rookwood vase. Me I got a gold chain and a Rookwood vase. It was so much like we were thinking alike. The next year she was gone and I did not celebrate that year.

    Hi,
We only had three years together and she died at age 33 far to young to go but she at least had a wonderful life.

Unexpected discovery tonight. I had purchased a pair of dangle earrings the seller had listed as florescent under black light. I put them in my jewelry box after playing around with my black light torch. While I was in the box I ran the black light over the rest of my stuff to see if anything else would light up. One other thing did. The little green glass cameo I got a few weeks ago! Here it is beside one of the earrings. Get me no closer on an idea of who made it or where it came from but I thought it was neat enough to share. FCB30DC0-1B31-46E9-9D1D-81E32DD966DC.jpeg

    Any thoughts on this please?
Arrived in a job lot so she’s probably going to find a new home. Do you know who she represents if anyone and what she’s made of?. Wondering if she’s made to look old but is actually fairly modern? . The moulded part looks to have been stuck onto the back as you can see under it in places. Darker back I just don't know but possibly composite or plastic?.
Does the frame date it at all?. Some age to it but unless it’s celluloid I’m not convinced.
    Thanks :)

I see the little beads/bumps that suggest a molded material, but in most ways she looks like shell to me. Are you sure she's not? No one in particular. A transitional figure, still remnants of the neoclassical look, on her way to becoming a pretty lady with a corsage. First third of the 20th century. A basic cleaning might get rid of crud making her look like she's 2 pieces. That, or it will detach the parts. Can you get a fingernail under the edge of the figure in places? I'm not seeing the separation you describe. From the shot of the edge, front looks convex; is back concave?

Took a bit of a flyer in bidding on this group, but yesterday's mail proved it justified.

Guide books for Rome in the second half of the 19th century list Paolo & Luigi Neri, mentioning that Madame Neri (presumably a wife) was also a talented cameist, as a good source for portrait cameos. Of the handful of photo examples of Neri signatures I have been able to round up, no two are exactly alike. A number are marked like this one, Neri F[ecit] Rome, but in different hands. This one is odd for having a Greek E at the end of Rome but an ordinary E in Neri. Frequently pieces are attributed to Paolo by default; the most that can be said with confidence is that they are products of the Neri family workshop.

It's not likely I'll ever own work by the greatest of the 19th century artists, not unless I get very, very lucky. But definitely gradually assembling a collection of the second & third ranks. Neri is another box checked.

    Salutations!

Here is a cameo which is a recent addition. Set in brass according to the seller. Not much in terms of details. Ariadne, and a faint scratching on the back that appears to be a signature.

Can anyone make out what the signature says? 752F8F46-4D42-453C-B57B-F64B920ECB86.jpeg 33850B34-CADF-4FD3-932B-D36EF0756461.jpeg 03208B47-FCED-41E3-8FF4-B4F4C32AE9DD.jpeg I’ve tried different light but oh man is this difficult to see!
