Hi all. And once again I've purchased something I know little about. :joyful: I simply couldn't pass on it for $4 though! Looks like some of the internals were damaged/bent but seems to be in working order. How do I go about finding the model of this particular piece? My newbie eyes would think this was made in 1930 and is a model 411 but that search hasn't come up with anything. Can anyone help in that realm? I'd also like some tips on the internals. I'm trying to hang the pendulum after bending the arm back into what appears to be the proper place but I can't figure it out and perhaps I'm missing a piece? Thanks for any help that can be offered!

    Jeff

I cannot see it very well, but the pendulum hangs from a 'leader' that goes from the flexible suspension at the top to the crutch and through it, then the pendulum bob hangs on the end of that.

There are marks on the back of the movement that would shed light but I cannot read or see them well enough.

Never photograph things with a bright light behind them, except for deliberate artistic effect.

Ok, so I'm very glad the crutch is brass. It was damaged due to the rear door being shoved inward by the previous owner or during handling at the store but was probably bent the proper way, otherwise there would be nothing to move the leader with. The crutch should be coming out, toward the viewer of the image and not straight down as in the photo, correct? It appears that the flexible suspension is what's broken and will need to be replaced.

So if I'm looking for replacement parts for this, that's the brand I should look for? From my limited understanding, Colonial of Zeeland simply made the wood housing?

Yes the name and model number is on the back. Your second pic.

Thanks Fid. I've already ordered a flexible suspension piece from Timesavers... are they ok? Once I can mount the pendulum I'll see how this is running. The chimes were working fine but the piece that the chimes are mounted to is coming loose from the side of the clock. If I need anymore parts I'll be checking out the above. Hopefully I won't have to replace the entire movement!

better ask af, he's our best when it comes to fixing old stuff. as I'm not in the US, but France, I can't tell you anything about their online shop. if I had to have one, I'd research ebay with the model-no.; might come cheaper to order a secondhand one that is still working.

It is not really worth investing more than a few dollars in it. Indeed, the crutch part with the slot should be horizontal, not vertical as shown. The suspension spring merely needs to be sufficiently flexible, neither width nor thickness are critical.
Once you have the pendulum suspended, you will need to put the clock in beat. I could explain this but you could probably find a Youtube video that would do a better and clearer job.

Thank you! The suspension spring I ordered was $3. They had me confused on the hole size though... there was a 0.04mm and a 0.05mm version. From what you said though that probably won't make much difference either?

I was reading the manual that came with the clock and it looked like there were multiple ways to adjust the beat, including bending a piece. Maybe I read that wrong? Thanks for the help afantiques! This is actually a really fun project so far. :)
